Cloud save overwrote your Elden Ring progress

Help me sort out a Steam Cloud conflict with my Elden Ring save on this PC, following findmysave's steps.

   - Start read-only: find my saves and list name, size and modified time.
   - Back up the whole save folder before changing anything.
   - Ask me before you delete, rename, move or overwrite any file (changes_files=true).
   - No anti-cheat files, no third-party tools unless I say yes.
   - Make sure the game is closed first.
3. Check with me that this is what happened, then do its steps in order and tell me how to check each one:
   - 'Cloud Sync Conflict' dialog shows different cloud and local save times

"Cloud Sync Conflict" with different save times

Symptom

The Cloud Sync Conflict dialog shows different cloud and local save times. Picking the wrong one rolls your progress back.

  1. Before you choose, copy %appdata%\EldenRing\<your Steam ID> to a safe folder.

    Not sure where the save folder is?

  2. Compare the times in the dialog with your last play session.

  3. Choose the most recently modified (newer) save. Then let Steam upload it and download it to the PC.

  4. If it keeps happening, turn off Steam Cloud for Elden Ring and back up by hand.

Unverified: In 2022 Bandai Namco confirmed a bug that could stop saves uploading to Steam Cloud. Whether it is fully fixed today isn't known.
