Help me move my Hollow Knight: Silksong save to this PC or account on this PC, following findmysave's steps.

Move a save from Xbox Game Pass PC to Steam (or Steam to Xbox)

Symptom

You want to carry your progress between the Game Pass for PC version and the Steam version.

Steps marked “changes files” delete, rename or overwrite something. Back up the whole save folder first.

  1. Open %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\TeamCherry.HollowKnightSilksong_y4jvztpgccj42\SystemAppData\wgs\ and find the folder with container in its name.

    Not sure where the save folder is?

  2. The save is usually the first file with a long numeric name. Copy it out and rename the copy user1.dat. If the save doesn't show up later, try the other files.changes files

  3. Turn off Steam Cloud sync, then paste the file into the Steam save folder LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight Silksong\<your Steam ID>\ and replace the existing file.changes files

  4. Launch the game and check the slot. Alternative: a community Steam guide uses a third-party tool, WGS Inspector, with its Hollow Knight: Silksong (Steam) exporter. Third-party tools are at your own risk, so back up first.

    Check: Your progress shows up in the slot.

Unverified: The WGS Inspector guide showed a notice that it was removed or incompatible, so it may not work. One guide points the destination at the original Hollow Knight folder. Use the Silksong folder instead.

Move a save to a new PC or another Steam account

Symptom

You want to move or restore a save between Steam accounts, from a non-Steam copy to Steam, or onto a new PC.

Steps marked “changes files” delete, rename or overwrite something. Back up the whole save folder first.

  1. On the old PC, copy the whole numeric folder under LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight Silksong\. Turn on hidden items if you can't see AppData.

    Not sure where the save folder is?

  2. On the new PC, start Silksong once so a folder named after your Steam ID gets created, then close the game.

  3. Paste the files into your own numeric folder and replace the existing ones. (881710160 is just an example Steam folder name.)changes files

  4. Launch the game and look at your profile slots.

    Check: Your old progress shows up in the slots.

Unverified: That each Steam account has its own numeric folder comes from Chinese guide sites, not from Team Cherry.
